PAINTINGS

My paintings come from my body/from having a body, a femme body, a queer body, a body that holds memory, sensation, violence, pleasure, survival and mystery. I paint figures, openings, shadows, chairs, diamonds, visions that appear to me, portals. Some images come through dreams. Others begin with a feeling, a movement or something I cannot yet explain.

I work intuitively and experimentally, building with layers of acrylic, water, and sometimes charcoal and other materials. I am interested in what happens when an image is allowed to remain unresolved / when something beautiful can also be disturbing, erotic, funny, sacred or strange. I ask the paintings to bend, open, split, dance, disappear and become something else. They carry traces of what has happened and the work of transmutation.
