30 days IChing

For 30 mornings, I consulted the I Ching and created one visual response each day on 6 × 6-inch watercolor paper. I responded to an element that stood out from the reading—a phrase, image, feeling, or something I felt in my body. Each piece took between 5 and 20 minutes to make. I worked experimentally with watercolor, acrylic, monotype and mixed media, allowing the materials and process to evolve as I went.

Installed together, the 30 pieces form a larger 30 × 36-inch pattern. The project is an experiment and an embodied practice of change: a way of exploring the bigger patterns of the universe during times of seeming chaos and asking, each day, Where can I locate myself? This was part of Fourteen Fifteen Gallery’s annual 30 day project.
